Extradition Process Begins for Prime Accused in Hadi Murder Case following Arrests in India. The process to extradite Faisal Karim Masud, the prime suspect in the high-profile murder of Inqilab Mancha convener Shaheed Sharif Osman Bin Hadi, along with his associate Alamgir Hossain, has officially commenced.
The two suspects were apprehended by West Bengal Police in India late Saturday night. According to intelligence sources, the arrests were made in the Bongaon area, near the Bangladesh-India border, based on specific leads provided by Bangladeshi defense intelligence.
The Arrest and Legal Proceedings Following their detention, a case was filed against the duo in India. They were produced before a local court today and subsequently sent into police custody. Indian news agency ANI and West Bengal-based media outlet ‘Ei Samay’ have confirmed the arrests.
Intelligence reports suggest that Faisal and Alamgir had originally fled to India through the Meghalaya border following the murder. They had been moving between various locations before attempting to return to Bangladesh via Bongaon, where they were eventually intercepted by Indian authorities.
Diplomatic and Intelligence Cooperation The breakthrough follows a recent high-level visit to India by the newly appointed Director General of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). During the visit, the DGFI chief formally requested Indian authorities to apprehend and repatriate all fugitives and terrorists linked to the Osman Hadi murder case.
In response to Bangladesh’s request, Indian authorities have not only secured these high-value targets but have also assured a “crackdown” on individuals operating from Indian soil to conduct anti-Bangladesh propaganda.
Background of the Assassination Shaheed Osman Bin Hadi was a prominent figure and the convener of Inqilab Mancha. On December 12 last year, he was shot and critically injured by two motorcycle-borne gunmen on Box Culvert Road in Dhaka’s Paltan area following Friday prayers.
Despite being flown to Singapore General Hospital for advanced treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on December 18. Several other suspects previously arrested in connection with the case have already provided confessional statements in court.
Authorities in Bangladesh are now coordinating with their Indian counterparts to complete the legal formalities required to bring Faisal and Alamgir back to face trial.
