Amid growing concerns over fuel supplies due to the ongoing Iran-US-Israel conflict in the Middle East, the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) has delivered much-needed positive news. Two massive tankers carrying a combined 57,000 metric tonnes of diesel from Singapore reached Bangladesh on Monday (March 9), bolstering the country’s energy security.

The First Arrival: MT JI YU CHI

According to sources from the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and port officials, the oil tanker ‘MT JI YU CHI’ anchored at the Chattogram Port limits on Monday afternoon.

Cargo: 27,000 metric tonnes of diesel.

Origin: Singapore.

This arrival comes at a critical time when global geopolitical instability had sparked fears of a shortage in diesel and octane—the lifelines of the country’s transport and industrial sectors. Officials believe this shipment will stabilize the domestic supply chain.

Second Tanker Expected Tonight Port and fuel transport officials confirmed that a second major vessel, the ‘MT LIAN HUAN HU’, is scheduled to reach the outer anchorage of Chattogram Port by Monday night.

Expected Arrival: Approximately 11:00 PM near the Kutubdia Channel.

Cargo: 30,000 metric tonnes of refined diesel.

Strengthening Energy Security With approximately 57,000 metric tonnes of fuel arriving on the same day, senior officials expressed optimism that the country’s energy reserves are now in a stronger position.

“All preparations have been finalized to begin the unloading process immediately. We are prioritizing the swift discharge of fuel to ensure there is no disruption in the national supply,” a port official stated.
